Built For The Building

Some parts of a project can be ordered. The feature that defines the room usually cannot. Architectural feature fabrication is most of what our shop does: custom feature walls, bars and back bars, ceiling systems, entries, canopies, stairs, railings, and casework for architects, interior designers, developers, and general contractors across San Diego and Southern California. Some projects arrive as a complete drawing set, others start as a rendering or a sketch. Either way, we protect the idea while making it buildable.

That takes more than making the visible surface. We field measure, develop the shop drawings, resolve substrates and connections, coordinate loads and MEP, and plan how the feature will ship, fit, and install. Millwork, metalwork, digital fabrication, and finishing all happen inside our 25,000 square foot San Diego shop. That’s why a complex mixed-material feature comes together so seamlessly: one team, one set of drawings, one schedule from the shop to the site.

What It Takes To Build The Feature

Before a detail reaches the shop, we test it against material, labor, lead time, site conditions, and budget. If the original approach is carrying more cost than it should, we show you where the number lives and develop a smarter way to build it without sanding the character out of the design. Clear pricing and realistic schedules comes early, when they can still help.

Bring us construction documents, an elevation, a rendering, or a napkin sketch. We develop it into a buildable assembly, resolving materials, joinery, reveals, substrates, attachment, tolerances, and sequence. The goal is simple: keep the design intent intact and remove the unknowns before they reach the shop or the field.

Every dimension, joint, material, and connection is settled on paper before anything is cut. Our technical design team produces coordinated submittal and shop drawings for review and approval, then turns the approved set into the roadmap our fabricators build from. The design team, GC, and shop all work from the same information, exactly as they should.

Suspended elements, cantilevers, two-story feature walls, canopies, and oversized installations often need structural engineering behind them. We coordinate with licensed structural engineers to verify loads, connections, and code requirements and to produce stamped documentation when required. Because engineering develops alongside fabrication, the approved solution is one our crew can actually build and install.

From floor-to-ceiling feature walls and slat systems to paneling, ceilings, bars, casework, and cabinetry, custom millwork is core to our shop. Solid wood, veneer and sheet goods are cut, assembled, and pre-fit here before they ship, so the site is for installation - not figuring out a joint that should have been solved weeks earlier.

Our in-house metal team handles MIG and TIG welding, laser welding, precision machining, structural steel, and fine ornamental work. Keeping metalwork beside millwork matters most on mixed-material features: steel framed entries, wood and metal bars, canopies, railings, and custom assemblies. Both halves come off the same drawing and hold the same tolerances.

Integrated lighting works best when it belongs to the feature from the start. We coordinate LED systems, drivers, dimming, power, service access, and adjacent mechanical, electrical, and fire protection requirements before the assembly reaches the shop floor. Chases, junctions, and clearances are much easier to solve on paper than over a finished ceiling.

Finishing runs through our dust-free booth, with lacquer, stain, patina, paint, and weather resistant coatings selected for the material, environment, and wear. Before a piece leaves the shop we also plan packaging, delivery, access, sequencing, and installation. Our crews take responsibility for the final fit, working with the real building, its finished surfaces, field tolerances, and all.
