The Finisher is responsible for performing surface preparation and finish work for Tecture’s custom design and fabrication projects. This position prepares, stains, paints, seals, coats, and otherwise finishes wood, metal, and other materials to achieve the specified color, texture, sheen, and appearance. The finisher works closely with the Lead Finisher, Production, Design, Project Manager, and installation teams to ensure finished products meet Tecture’s standards for quality and craftsmanship.

Finishing & Production

• Perform finishing work on custom furniture, cabinetry, millwork, architectural elements, fixtures, and specialty fabricated pieces;

• Prepare surfaces through sanding, filling, masking, cleaning, priming, and other preparation techniques;

• Apply stains, paints, sealers, lacquers, oils, clear coats, and other finishing products as directed;

• Apply finishes using spray equipment, brushes, rollers, and other appropriate methods;

• Mix and prepare finishing materials according to established procedures and project requirements;

• Assist with color matching and preparation of finish samples;

• Monitor drying, curing, and recoat requirements;

• Maintain consistent color, sheen, texture, coverage, and overall appearance;

• Perform touch-ups and corrective finishing work as needed;

• Prepare completed work for packaging, delivery, and installation; and

• Meet established production schedules while maintaining Tecture's quality standards.

Surface Preparation & Material Handling

• Inspect surfaces prior to finishing and identify imperfections or preparation requirements;

• Sand, fill, smooth, clean, and otherwise prepare surfaces for finishing;

• Properly mask and protect areas that should not receive finish materials;

• Handle wood, metal, veneers, laminates, and other specialty materials appropriately;

• Follow established preparation procedures for different materials and finish types;

• Properly label, store, and handle finishing products and materials;

• Maintain organized finishing materials, supplies, and work areas;

• Assist with finish samples, prototypes, and mock-ups; and

• Communicate material, preparation, or finishing concerns to the Lead Finisher.

Quality Control & Project Standards

• Inspect finished work for color, sheen, texture, coverage, consistency, and overall quality;

• Compare finished work against approved samples, specifications, and project requirements;

• Identify imperfections, defects, inconsistencies, or color variations and communicate them promptly;

• Perform corrections and touch-ups as directed;

• Maintain consistent finishing standards across individual components and complete projects;

• Ensure completed work meets Tecture's standards for quality and craftsmanship;

• Assist with punch-list and corrective work; and

• Provide feedback to the Lead Finisher regarding recurring quality or production issues.

Safety, Equipment & Shop Operations

• Follow all Company and applicable workplace safety requirements;

• Properly operate finishing equipment, spray guns, sanders, compressors, mixing equipment, and applicable hand and power tools;

• Use required personal protective equipment (PPE);

• Follow established procedures for handling, labeling, storing, and disposing of finishing products;

• Follow appropriate ventilation and safety procedures when applying finishing products;

• Inspect tools and equipment before use and report maintenance or safety concerns;

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe finishing area;

• Report injuries, incidents, hazards, spills, or equipment issues in accordance with Company procedures; and

• Support continuous improvement of shop safety, organization, and efficiency.

In addition, the education, experience, and other skills listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and / or abilities required.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred;

• Technical, vocational, trade school, woodworking, painting, finishing, or related training preferred; and

• Additional training related to coatings, spray finishing, woodworking, or chemical handling preferred.

Work Experience

• 2+ year of professional finishing and painting on fine metalwork and woodwork products

• Experience with surface preparation, sanding, staining, painting, sealing, or coating processes preferred;

• Experience using spray equipment or other finishing equipment preferred;

• Experience working with wood, metal, veneers, laminates, and other specialty materials preferred;

• Experience with custom furniture, architectural millwork, cabinetry, hospitality, commercial, or specialty fabrication preferred;

• Experience reading and following drawings, specifications, finish schedules, or project documentation preferred; and

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a production or fabrication team.

• Ability to read and follow architectural drawings, shop drawings, finish schedules, specifications, and technical documentation preferred;
