Floor-to-ceiling illuminated PVC rod installation

Hundreds of layered, color-treated PVC rods cut diagonally through a breakout nook at the UCSD Department of Computer Science & Engineering building, transforming an overlooked corner into a destination. The concept draws from the glitch itself - not a failure, but a signal, a rupture in an expected system that carries more meaning than the norm it interrupts. For this audience, that’s not a metaphor, it’s vocabulary. Running floor-to-ceiling, the gradients bleed outward into the corridor, pulling students, staff, and visitors into the space before it’s even visible. Fiber cable lighting embedded within select rods at staggered positions throughout produces a scattered internal glow.
